Summer Solar Panels: Debunking Common Myths and Misconceptions

As the summer sun shines down, many homeowners are considering solar panels as a way to save on their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint.

However, there are several myths and misconceptions surrounding solar panels that may be holding you back from making the switch.

In this blog, we will debunk some of the most common summer solar panel myths and provide you with the facts you need to make an informed decision.

From concerns about efficiency in hot weather to misconceptions about the cost of installation: we’ll set the record straight so you can confidently embrace solar power this summer. For solar panels Suffolk residents and UK homeowners recommend, we recommend searching on Google.

Myth: The UK doesn’t have enough sunshine for solar panels

While solar radiation differs around the globe, the UK is perfectly situated to benefit from the sunshine we get. The sheer number of productive PV systems across the UK shows that the technology is effective in Britain – around 1.2 million homes have solar panel installations in the UK.

Solar panels don’t rely on constant sunlight to perform – as long as there is plenty of daylight. Plus, our lower temperatures increase the efficiency of solar panels.

Myth: Solar panels are only effective when it’s sunny

Although solar panels work by converting solar energy from the sun into electricity, they do not require direct sunlight to function. They are also effective on cloudy days (another myth we will bust). Solar panels are most efficient when they absorb direct sunlight, though they still generate electricity when it’s cloudy outside. They even work in rainy conditions. While they don’t work as efficiently in overcast weather conditions, they still work well.

Myth: Solar panels don’t work on cloudy days

As discussed, solar panels still work on cloudy days, although they don’t absorb sunlight as efficiently as on sunny days with clear skies. While clouds do reduce the output of solar panels, light can still pass through the clouds and onto your solar panels.

Myth: Solar panels are far too expensive

While installing solar panels is a big investment, it is certainly a worthy one that isn’t too expensive. The cost of installing solar panels has been reduced significantly by over 80% since 2010. While it’s still not the most affordable investment, it is a lot cheaper than it used to be, and it is guaranteed to save you a lot in the long run. Funding might be available for individuals looking to install solar panels in their homes.

Myth: Solar panels are difficult to maintain

Solar panels are very low-maintenance since they don’t have any moving parts. While dirt and debris can slightly affect the performance of your solar panels, rain is enough to wash them off and keep your panels performing optimally. When it comes to maintenance, you just need to ensure your solar panels are clean, but this only needs to be done once every couple of years. From installation to maintenance, having solar panels is relatively straightforward.
